You're Out!

I’m quite sorry that baseball and softball will no longer be Olympic events. I think there are a number of sports that seem … well … not elitist but for lack of a better word - idiosyncratic. I think the equestrian events (elitist) and archery (antiquated) are less accessible to a variety of people. And that’s why I’m sorry to see the elimination of softball and baseball. Pickup games are played on global sandlots. They seem more accessible and therefore more equitable.

I liked the Olympics because I thought the spirit of the games - that achievement and attainment mattered more than affluence and influence - was a terrific bridge builder. But not anymore. It’s a sad loss really.
