Okay, I've had triple digit hits in one day; I've had less than one hit too.
But I know how to create a popular blog. I should teach it.
Hints to get into triple digits:
» You have to blog often. Even once a day isn't enough. Five times a day isn't enough.
» You have to link everything. No. Everything. Search engines find those connections.
» You can be literal but you must be visual too. Graphics guide the eye through your text.
» You can't be too personal. You can't write a diary. No one knows you. Unfortunately, no one is interested. Yet you can write about universal topics with a personal spin. Once you've established a readership you can become more intimate.
» You will never get into quadruple digits. You lack access to the immediate. By the time you comment on a cultural event, journalists have exhausted both the topic and the reader's interest. Society doesn't care about reaction; they want to see the action. Post a pic of Britney Spears ungracefully getting out of a car and you'll get hits. Comment on it and your hits will be spread wider than her thighs.
» Use WordPress. Blogger won't help you with hits. Blogger's tags only link to your posts; WordPress links to others who post similar topics. You will get hits from your tags on WordPress.
» Talent isn't enough. You have to market your blog. You have to tell everyone. You have to comment on blogs and articles.
» Link your blog to Facebook. If you don't have Facebook, slide out from behind the stone and squint until you're accustomed to the sun.
